Learning English at an early age? It’s possible!

Only 3-4 years old? Why don't you start learning English?

If your children start learning English when they are as young as 3-4 years old they will feel at ease with the language and they will be able to learn quickly while having fun.

For very young learners (3-7 years old), who are possibly still getting familiar with their mother tongue, learning a second language is somewhat natural. As they are interested in everything and get excited easily, move around happily; through song, rhymes and games English comes as a part of the fun.

It can already start at home. Here are a few tricks you can try with your little ones:

  • Change their colouring books to English language ones. They will get used to the visual motives of the language, depending on their age they can possibly start reading in English, as well. You can find good examples here.
  • Look for cartoons, videos that are partly or exclusively in English. For example this one: Thank you! You’re welcome!
  • Watch animation movies, which your children know very well, in English. A golden oldie 🙂 : Goldilocks and the three bears
  • Once your child is used to the language in a passive way, you can try to introduce simple language bits as “Please” and “Thank you”. That will help them to express themselves in English more quickly.

The next possible step is an English course which is very different from the usual adult courses. Here, we play, sing, draw, colour, dance and move a lot. Classes are only 45 minutes long so even the smallest ones can keep up without becoming too tired. It is similar to a day care, but everything happens in English. In my experience, children start using English words and short answers after 2-3 months but they understand questions and simple orders after a few classes.
